Mandaya Knife Balaraw with Dot Inlay
Greetings folks. I got this Balaraw with a few other goodies in a group at auction. I was going for this one because it is a rare form of Balaraw. Only in "Wild Tribes of Davao" have I seen one, and perhaps in one museum.
Not too much to restore but lots to clean up. There is evidence of tight laminations in the blade. The silver dot inlays are on both sides and the mounts are silver. The scabbard is new. I made it of black painted wood, rattan, banana leaf (on the back), and silver done in what I call "pin prick repousse" with Mandaya motifs. Enjoy! |

Outstanding work as always Jose, this one is on another level compared to balaraw you restored for me.
