Mirror with western sahel type leatherwork
iThe leatherwork appears to be West African in style . It measures , when closed, 7.5 x 9.5 inches. Very faintly written in ink is a name which is largely illegible ... 'Lt A (?) H . E???? ?? th ( ? )

That's very interesting. As a leather worker, I have a question. Is the leather on the outside front stacked up, or tooled in such a way as to look that way?

It could also be from Niger or even Northern Nigeria. It is not new, but what does old mean in Africa? (- nowadays even 30, 50 years is sometimes considered old).
They used layers of cardboard covered with thin leather (goat ?) to make such exserted reliefs + glue (the same in the case of takouba sheath or some knives sheaths) |
