Flintlock pistol by Bongard
Hello,
being just a reader for some time in this forum, I finally found the time to present here a flintlock pistol from my collection. I'm looking forward to your comments! A german flintlock pistol with a total length of 55 cm, caliber 18mm. Barrel signed "Bongard in Dvseldorp" (Hermann Bongard, 1655-1727). A few spots with remaining gold plating. All details very nicely finished. All the best for 2012! Matus |

Hi Matus,
This is a very fine sample of a French Baroque style flintlock hunting pistol made by the famous gunnmaker Hermann (French Armand) Bongarde in Düseldorf/Westfalia, Germany, obviously during his later years, ca. 1725. Guns by this maker are preserved in some of the finest museums, among them an early garniture from the 1680's in the Bavarian National Museum Munich. Congratulations, and best, Michael |

Hello Michael and Fernando,
thank you for your nice words. If I may ask you Michael, why do you think it's from Bongard's later years? I've been trying to research him as much as possible, but I'm far from being able to judge his works by the timeline... I'm very curious. Thank you, Matus |
