Small Minangkabau keris
I purchased this Minangkabau keris from a dealer in Padang earlier this year. Just wondering if anyone has any input on it. It was apparently made in the '60s or '70s. Not the brightest day, so the pics aren't the best...my apologies. I'll add some more when the sun comes back out.
I oiled the bilah right before I took the pics--I don't store it with that much oil on it. |

Back of the sheath...
The bilah had a hole drilled through it at some point. The dealer told me this was quite popular in the '60s and '70s because some believed it would further empower a keris. |

Hello Harimaukh,
better pics would be helpful. I guess that the hole shall be a part of a naga primitive. Would like to see better pics from the handle. Pendokok look very simple, oversheath (pendok) look nice. sajen |

Selamat pagi all (9:49 am here in HK),
I will take better pics soon--terrible weather at this time of year. Hot, humid, and lots of rain. Pak Alam, you could be right--the metal looks like it might be a similar alloy to what you'd find in coins. The oversheath also looks like it is made of mixed metal, and it has darkened up much like the pendokok. |

Salamaik Siang harimauhk,
Your photos looked familiar, so I hunted through my 'collection'. Here is one similar to yours (a gift from a friend who knows next to nothing about edged-weapons). It looks VERY recent (even the inside of the scabbard hasn't had time to collect any dust/dirt/grime.) Best, |

That does indeed look very much like mine. Do you think it might be a repro? I just checked the inside of my sheath with a flashlight. The throat is quite dirty/grimy, but the lower part (where the bilah rests) looks quite clean.
