Seeking translation assistance on Indian Sossun Patah
Let me first thank those that provide translation assistance. It is very helpful and enlightening to the pieces we study. This is an Indian Sossun Patah sword with a hilt with extensive Arabic inscriptions. Am hoping someone will be able to translate. Also interesting is a trident mark beneath one langet and a two character Indian inscription above that. Am hoping someone is able to translate that as well.

Hi Rick,
Very interesting sword with its Mughal rehilt. Perhaps this picture is a little easier to see the trisula. Ian . |

The Arabic inscriptions are invocations of various Beautiful Names of God (traditionally held to be 99, though according to strict theology infinite in number), including
يا اله "O God!” يا رزاق "O Sustainer” يا سلام "O Peace!” etc. Can’t help you with the Indian language inscription I’m afraid! |

Pleasure! I suspect the inscription on the blade is in Kannada, but I’m far from sure

Possible Devnagiri Numbers
Hi RSWORD,
The first digit appears to be a Devnagiri 2 and the second digit may be a 5 (although the curlicue at the bottom is atypical. You can look up Devnagiri numerals on line and see what you think. Sincerely, RobT |
