War Ship "Great ship"
Lots of good threads on Viking weapons on this site. The largest viking ships was the warships called "Great ship's" used by kings and Earls:
http://www.drakenexpeditionamerica.com/ Several of this ships must have seen action during the numerous large campaigns in England, the Baltic's, France, The Norwegian Civil war, the Norwegian crusade, King Canute's conquest of England. The Scottish Norwegian war in 1262 - 1266 might have been the last time this type of "Great ship's" set sail on military campaign. |

I HAVE A GREAT DEAL OF RESPECT FOR PEOPLE WHO ORGANIZE PROMOTE AND VOLUNTEER TO CREW THESE ADVENTURES. IN MANY WAYS IT IS MORE COMPLICATED TO DO TODAY THAN IT WAS IN THE ORIGINAL DAYS NO GOVERNMENTAL RED TAPE AND SPECIAL PERMISSION JUST YOU THE SEA AND THE UNKNOWN. TODAY WE HAVE MAPS AND MUCH IS KNOWN BUT THE SEA AND HOW IT WILL BEHAVE IS ALWAYS A POWERFUL UNKNOWN. SINCE TOR HEYERDAHL DID THE KON TIKI THERE HAVE BEEN MANY PROJECTS OF THIS TYPE AND ALL REMAIN HIGH ADVENTURE DESPITE MODERN TECHNOLOGY AND TRACKING. ONE NEVER KNOWS IF IT WILL BE A SLOW PEACEFUL CROSSING OR A BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL.
