Tourist Keris perhaps?

Although I am stoney broke at present. At a flea market this morning , took a chance on this as it was cheap and looks quite old, the blade anyway. Have I bought rubbish and wasted what little money a had. No need to be gentle with me

The blade has been glued in with some modern gunge. If it is any good I give it the juice treatment and put it back properly.

Hi Tim,
This looks like a 'Soldier Keris' from Madura; although it seems to be missing its gonjo and mendak it's still attractive . The blade could be older than the dress.

How many portions ?

Tim,
It doesn't look like one, it is one. The early souvenir keris for the dutch soldiers of the KNIL. An old blade was used in a new made dress that was atractive for the young soldiers to bring home.

Thanks chaps, I did think it looked bit of a pony. The blade looked old and interesting

. How many portion? too many I think is the best answer. Still it is all about learning. Theres no fool like an old fool

Don't feel bad Tim; buck up, it's a piece of Dutch Colonial history; look at it that way.

I agree with Rick, i think these old Dutch soldier souvieners are very collectible just from the historical aspect. I would eventually like to find a prime example for my collection. The dress looks a little better that the usual for these types, but not as high end as i have seen. The worst part about your purchace for me is the missing gonjo.

I agree completely with Rick and David. The missing gonjo is indeed the worst part. But your scabbard looks very good. Better than the pieces I see coming up now and then here in Holland and the mendak is replaceable.
In my opinion, but I'm Dutch, every keris collection should have such a keris because it fits in a category. that of the historical aspect. These keris where made for the dutch soldiers in those days. And, but it is guessing, the gonjo could have been missing since the keris became his present look.
