Default Opinion and translation.

Hello Everybody,
Last week end I bought ( 3€ - 3,9$) this dagger, when I see the end of its scabbard with a fish head monster , I think its original of balkan and its not very old and possible a tourist piece , but for the price its not important,If someone can help me and translate it ?
Thank in advance

Lovely dagger! The date is 1127 which I think translates as 1715.
I wouldn't have said it looks that old from first glance. So perhaps some other significance to the date?

Edit: sorry can't help with the main inscription. Hell of a bargain though!

Well, this would be Ottoman, possibly Kurdish(?). IF a tourist piece, it is a good one.

"ericlaude" fortunately you didn't spent a lot of money
any way, the knife looks great
now, to have a precise idea about your knife,
you will have to analyze since when,
the word "Daghestan" appear in history

the translation for the blade inscription
will give you an explanation

HAHI DAWOOD DAGHRESTANI either HAHI DAWOOD (the) DAGHRESTAN (man)

1127 either 1714

we have just a name, and a date

now hope to you, to complete the story for this knife
to help you, I look for when the first mention about "Daghestan"

extracted from
; http://www.zum.de/whkmla/region/russia/xdagestan.html
Until the early 19th century Dagestan belongted to Safavid Persia, then briefly to the Russian Empire (1722-1735), then to Afsharid respectively Zand Persia. In 1796/1803 the Khanate of Avaristan (which covered Dagestan) submitted to Russian suzerainty. The Dagestani resisted Russian taxation; their resistance was broken in 1864. The territory of modern Dagestan was administratively divided in Derbent Gubernia 1846-1860 / Dagestan Oblast 1860-1917 and Terek Oblast.
During the Russian Civil War (1917-1921) Dagestan formed part of the Republic of Northern Caucasus, but then was annexed into the RSFSR; the Dagestan ASSR was established in 1921.
The Dagestan ASSR, as part of the RSFSR, from 1922 to 1991 was part of the USSR. During the transition from communism to democracy it was renamed Dagestan Republic. The USSR disintegrated in 1991; Dagestan Republic now forms part of the Russian Federation.

Alternate spellings : Dagestan, Daghestan, Dachestan, Dagg Estan, Dakistan, Dagistan

do not seems appear before the 19th century ... in that case the date of 1714

congratulations and regards

à +
