What is this pamor called?
Hi all,
Can you tell me what this pamor is called? There are "stripes" running along the edges, no pamor in the middle of the blade. It's certainly an adeg pamor, but which one? Adeg wengkon? Thank you. Peter Last edited by stekemest; 5th July 2007 at 11:36 PM. |

To be honest, I'm also not a keris expert but now I'm just learning from my friend and from keris book. But I'm trying to help you with your question, according to Keris encyclopedia by Bambang Harsrinuksmo, it's right the pamor you're asking is one of an adeg pamor, but there are some types of adeg pamor: 1. Adeg iras: the stripes running along the blade and it continues till its ganja. 2. Adeg sapu: if the stripes more than 7 stripes running along the blade and usually "adeg sapu" name is commonly used in east java but not in central java, they just called it "adeg" pamor. 3. Adeg lima wengkon: if there are 5 stripes running along the blade and the thicknes of its stripes appr. 3-5mm. Sometimes it's also called "adeg tiga wengkon" or "gajah gelar" pamor. 4. Janur sinebit pamor is also one of adeg pamor types, the stripes are between 4-5 stripes only, and this janur sinebit pamor is almost similar with gajah gelar pamor, the difference is for janur sinebit the stripes are together in the center, but for gajah gelar pamor the stripes are not in the center but at the edges of the blade. So in my opinion, the pamor you're asking is pamor "Adeg lima wengkon" or other name "gajah gelar" pamor. It's just my opinion, Im sorry if I might be wrong with my explanation cos as I told you that I'm new to the keris and I'm learning now Hope it will help you, Peter. |

Hello Peter,
Could you possibly post a pic? There are too many important details not visible from a drawing... Regards, Kai |

Pamor Wengkon
Hello Peter,
If picture is not possible, I would suggest the pamor as wengkon, without adeg. It will consisting of 2 stripes in the edges, a stripe often consisting of several smaller stripes. Adeg wengkon will have 2 stripes in the edges and 1 stripe in the middle of the blade, also known as teja kinurung. But as Kai mention, the picture of the actual item will be much helpful of better determining the pamor. Regards, Chandra |

Hi,
I finally managed to get some pictures. It's not my keris, that's why I didn't have some. Pretty bad condition, hope the pictures help. I don't think it's possible to say something about the place or date of manufacture, is it? Thank you all. Peter |

Beras Wutah
Hi Peter,
If the blade is stained in warangan liquid, then the pamor would be beras wutah. The lines in the border of the blade, are the layers of the keris' metal. They are not the pamor. The dapur of the keris is tilamupih, and typically Tuban keris. I can not tell you the tangguh, based on only pictures. But, I guess it was "Tuban Mataram" (Tuban type keris, but was made during Mataram era). Of course, I maybe wrong... At least, that's my guess. Ganjawulung |

Hi ganjawulung!
Thank you very much for your opinion. So this keris could date to the 14th - 16th century? And why is the dapur not brojol? Thought it looked exactly like this. Thanks again, Peter |

Dear Peter,
Between dapur tilampupih and brojol is "slightly" different. And the difference lies on the "ricikan" or details of the blade. If your straight keris has a "tikel alis" (Cahaya, If you don't mind, would you draw the "tikel alis" for me, on Peter's picture please...). But if without tikel alis, then your keris is brojol.
