Default RAK Bedo Knife for comments

Salam,

See attached bedioun knife photos. The vendor said he purchased it from a wondering bedo somewhere near RAK (Ras Al Khamiah) more than 20 years ago. The overall length of the knife is 250mm from tip to hilt. It appears that the handle starts in a brass, then wood, with the hilt made from aluminium, its interesting to note the hilts “V” shaping.
Would be interested in the forums opinions on origin, use, age and the “V” shaping of the hilt, etc

Salaams Shamal ~ Well Well Well !! Fancy that !! A Baluchi Knife. Note on Baluch knives the flatter ears on the top at the pommel. You can also see RAK daggers called Shehe (after the Shehooh; the main tribe there whose daggers sport quite flared pommel ears which look almost Turkish "yat" style but not quite so big. You will find "Shehi" on Forum on...http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...t=Omani+Knives

The aluminium repair incorporates ears into the design, moreover, I would say the basic form belongs to Pakistan, however, "Baloochified" with the aluminium repair and pommel ear styling.

Baluchistan straddles two countries; Iran and Pakistan and is a quick Dhow ride or speed boat trip across the sea from RAK. It has always had close relationships with Oman and a large area was owned (including Gwadur port) by Oman up until about 1950.

Ibrahiim al Balooshi.

Shokran Ibrahiim, so the knife is Baluchi however the handle has been repaired/replaced at some stage? In RAK or elsewhere like Pakistan perhaps?
