Insurance for collectables -- Recommendations?
Does anyone have recommedations for insurance on collections of ethnographic antiques and art?
In the USA? My homeowner's insurance won't carry beyond a certain dollar figure and they don't like the hundreds of pieces I have anyway. They tell me to get a "Fine Art Floater." Sounds like a fancy raft. |

That's the raft you need Bill .
Then you have to decide whether to insure for cost or replacement value. If you're into the hundreds of pieces territory and you can afford it; were I you I'd do it . There are companies that specialize in this kind of insurance . Then there's always the 'pair of Rottweilers' route .. |

In my neighbrohood they'd steal the Rottweilers! Found a good company, I think and will pass this along. Will let anyone interested know more info if you like. PM me. Don't guess it is proper to put their name/website here. |

Generally you can add pieces on to you home owners insurance as a fine arts rider. You will need to have the items appraised by either a appraiser or gun/sword dealer.Especially if you have flintlock rifles or pistols have them listed under fine arts. They generally will only accept a amount up to a 1/3 of what your house is worth.

I've been thinking of trying these guys;
CIA Collectibles Insurance Agency http://www.collectinsure.com They advertise in Blade and look promising. When I contact them I'll let you know how it goes. |
