Well, this is Maranao, mid to late 1800s, and perhaps ceremonial. Well preserved. Once had an iron or brass/bronze guard.

Battara, I realize that discerning the features of a kampilan can be tricky ... i.e., for a beginner like moi Yet on the other hand for somebody who's been at this for some time ... i.e., yourself the subtle features can easily be recognized. Would you mind further sharing your thoughts on how the kampilan may have truly been a Maranao piece? Thanks in advance! |

Ok, well, here are 2 things that tell me it is Maranao:
a) the style of okir used is Maranao b) the type of pommel form is Maranao (as opposed to that used in Borneo) |
