I was recently given this lovely piece and I know little about its age, history, quality, etc.

Can anyone advise me? The ruler in the photos is 6".

Berber dagger , giving appraisals is against the rules here .
I have deleted your post .
Feel free to advise others on price using the PM function .

The 'Please Read Before Posting' subject at the top of the Ethnographic page is most informative .

Hi Lillian,
While these 'koummya' are quite attractive, they are not particularly valuable except in cases where the blade or provenance might warrant. As noted, these have been heavily produced in Morocco and as far as Algeria well into the 20th century. Though often regarded as 'tourist' items, it should be remembered that in these cultures, the janbiyya is still a very important traditional element of costume still often worn.
If you are seeking appraisals or financial advice, the PM function is recommended, where many of us would be happy to offer assistance or referrals.

Best regards,
Jim

The question was: "Where can I go to get an appraisal?" The member was not asking for an appraisal from this Forum, but in my opinion simply asking to be pointed in the right direction. A little heavyhanded in my opinion.

Sorry I apologise. I obviously was not aware of the content of the removed post. I took what you said to be directed at Lillian.
