Shamshir

A rewarding day today at Leeds Arms Fair with me finaly getting a shamshir at a price I could afford and in decent condition. A bit shabby, and never a prestige piece but I like it.

The blade is heavy,no fullers and has a decent taper in both directions and looks to be without any deep pitting and so should clean up nicely. I think the grip is bone rather than ivory, the guard and nose steel, and who knows, the blade just might be Wootz. Pretty generic so comments as to origin welcome.

It is very difficult to accurately define the region. It can be Persia or any countries that border it. For example Afghanistan or the khanates of Central Asia

Those grips look as though they might be 'Fish bone'. A better focused picture would be very helpful to determine if that's what it is.

Yes indeed. A clear picture of the whole sword would be interesting also.
