Default Need help on a mark.

I have a Hotchkiss clinometer. I noticed this mark that I have attached and cannot find it in my references. Anybody?

The thing is probably from around ww1.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

The picture shows one like mine. In essence, if you know the trajectory of a projectile and charge for a given gun, you can elevate the barrel to have the projectile hit at a certain distance. The thing in the picture sat on a Hotchkiss machine gun, the end of the bubble level was raised so that if it were made level it would be that many degrees off the horizontal.

I picked up a couple of these ... the last one is an illustration from the 1894 Hotchkiss Catalog. I have one just like it.

Thanks Ed, that helps, but really dont know what place to look for that marking. There has always been a broad collectors group focused on scientific instruments and the like, and used to see them advertised in nautical memoribilia catalogs sometimes. Wallis & Wallis catalogs used to often have a miscellenia section that had misc. WWI stuff militaria etc.

One place that always seemed helpful was the National Army Museum in London, and the curators there deal heavily in cataloging these kinds of items.
While I dont know the marking, I think these resources might prove helpful in at least possibilities.

All the best,
Jim
