My first thoughts went to Borneo; a 'nyabor' type blade, a bit a Sumatran type hilt though. >Unusual type of Nyabor ?< ('nyabor' is used in Borneo; Sarawak side, near Brunei).
But am far from sure . . . . . |

I too thought Sumatra. You've done a nice job cleaning it up.

I think it's Sumatra, too, even if I don't remember to have seen anything like it before.
If not Sumatra maybe Malaysia? The hilt style and material resembles those of Aceh. The pins form an eyes of Shiva triangular motif that is almost only found in Sumatra, among the islands of the Malay archipelago. The blade shape is a bit puzzling, however, it is not even slightly related to any of the Iban or other Dayak swords. Michael Last edited by VVV; 16th June 2012 at 10:28 AM. |

Maybe it is from Jambi on Sumatra.

Yes, that is quite possible.
Often you find a bit odd weapons, and unusual variations that resemble swords from Aceh, coming from Jambi. Michael |

Willem, yours (from Leiden) seems to be a Jambi variation of the Aceh peudeung, but with another hilt.
Michael PS Here is the Aceh version with horn hilt. Last edited by VVV; 19th June 2012 at 12:00 AM. Reason: Added PS and reference pictures |
