Question about Thai(?) sword
I noticed an example that Puff posted when he was illustrating various utilitarian knives and commented that they were inspired from earlier Ayutthaya design. The example I noticed had a similar handle shape and made me wonder about my example, which I had originally thought to be Burmese. Then, we had the post with many wonderful examples of Thai sword and there was an example in that grouping with a similar style handle. Therefore, I am posting this example for comment to see if I am indeed seeing similarities. It is much larger in person than it looks in the pictures and may be a cut down sword as opposed to an oversized chopper knife.

Hi Rick. I would also say that is Burmese, but I'm interested to hear from our new Thai members.
I'm inclined to lean that way by the handle shape and downward tilt, along with that blade marking (which Mark has suggested is a stylized peacock--a significant animal in Burma). What are the dimensions of this thing? Could you show us the tip? |
