Weapons of Moroland plaque

4 years ago this was easy to find in Davao city when the original Aldevinco (the iconic souvenir store in Davao city) was still standing. Now it took me a long time to find one so I purchased it once I saw it. It is 12 inches long. The quality is mediocre : some of the paint in the texts are already chipped, the Philippine flag was loose so I had to re-attach it. But this is the only one I found in my search.I regret not buying many of these when it was still available. It has hard to find these currently even in Mindanao.

Also in the photo are two old gunongs from my collection.

What an amazing display! It seems these plaques were quite commonly known for some time and served well in identifying these many esoteric forms for collectors. They always represented to me the fascinating field of miniature weapons,which has become well established in collecting.

I believe this example, framed under glass perhaps to deter young hands, dates to the Vietnam War era. An inscription on the back is faded, but this appears to have been sent by a serviceman in the Philippines to his parents in Massachusetts.

These plaques are really good. Sadly the quality of modern moro plaques cannot match the old ones. The photo I posted is the best one I got. No one makes good quality weapons of moroland plaques here in Mindanao anymore.

I was told that the earliest plaques were actually made in Baguio (and not Mindanao), that's why a lot of profiles are inaccurate / mislabeled / fantasy made. Eventually though, other areas (including Mindanao) picked up the plaque-making as people realized it was marketable as a tourist attraction

Thank you Kino. Speaking of gunong, it is not accurately represented in the plaque along with the other blades. haha.
