Thumbs up Large Somali sword.

This is the biggest and nicest one I have seen. You will not doubt the potential of these swords again. The blade 61cm long, the over all size from tip to tip is 81cm. I show it next to the more standard long version. I am looking for £60 or a swap. If you like Islamic or East African weapons you will not be dissapointed. PM or email me.

Thanks Tim - payment sent. I'm particularly interested in this because Sir Richard Francis Burton is one of my heroes and he had a rather famous encounter with a bunch of Somalis using these, amongst other weapons. He also described Somalian weapons of his time in a couple of his books.
If you or anybody else here knows any more about these swords or has any links to more information I'd be very interested.

Best regards,
Matt

Matt, I'm an admirer of Burton as well (ever since I first saw "Mountains of the Moon" ). If you're interested, post a query about these weapons in the general forum. We have some members that are very knowlegeable about African arms that may not see this post in the Swap forum.
