Coteng for our archives & sharing
This Coteng ended recently by ebay, I never thought that it went high like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Indonesian-K...#ht_160wt_1153
Maybe the unusual skript (jawi?) on the blade was the reason. Since we don't see Coteng keris so often I think the pictures are worth to keep for our archives. |

I saw this, but was not so interested considering the damage to the scabbard. I did not think this is a coteng style hilt. It looks more like what i have come to consider as a keris tajong. What about this do you think qualifies it as coteng?

Hello David,
the lack of the beard by the hilt qualify this hilt as a Coteng hilt. See here: http://kerisarchipelago.150m.com/webpage/Tajong2.htm Regards, Detlef |

Regarding this keris in question, I think that it is also with the demaged scabbard still a bargain, I've seen Coteng handles only sold by much higher prices. And I think that the inscripition on the blade was a essential reason that the selling price rise up like this. The blade could be cleaned very easily and Coteng keris are very seldom on the market. This is a coteng, and one with a rather good hilt! I like the pendoko. An uncommon form. It may have had a stem at some point in time.

Hello Kai Wee,
thank you for comment. I agree with you about hilt and pendokok. What you think about the blade with the inscription? Regards, Detlef |
