An intresting Pata sword
i will show you this ( i think) very intresting and i think very rare indian sword for disuss.
i never saw before these kind of gauntled sword with an yalihead.( by stone you could find an picture with an yalihead at the gauntled but there you couldnīt see the details.) these sword was mounted with an eurorean blade. iīm not sure if it is solingen or maybe spain. i couldnīt read the signature. maybe someone know something more about the maker or could read the name at the oposite side you could read the year 1640 ( i think that it is the year and not an mystic number) unfortunatly is the the gauntled not complete( the arms ring is missing) but the other parts are in an very good condition. now iīm courius about the opinions from the indian arms specialist in the forum. best stefan |

Hello,
really nice pata with an interesting old gauntlet ! the blade must be european, can you post a picture of the other side of the blade with the ''date''1640 ? |

Interesting Pata. The short gauntlet indicates early age (circa 1600). Tanjore region. The blade seems Italian or German. 1640 is very plausible for the date. The Yalihead was ment to stop an opponents strike.
Congrats! Peter |
