Default Indian temple frieze

Hi all
was in the national art gallery of Victoria (in Australia) the other day and came across some portions of a 17th C temple frieze from Kerala which has some interesting portrayals of weapons which I thought may be of interest
cheers

You are right, such friezes are very valuable for studying the different weapon types, and often decorations on weapons and scabbards as well. Robert Elgood in Hindu Arms and Ritual shows a lot of friezes and statues in the book. Thank you for showing.

Default Nice pictures ...

Hi DrD:

Great pictures. Are these on postcards?

I'm in Melbourne for a week or so visiting my relatives. Where in the National Gallery did you find these? I would like to stop by and take a look.

Thanks for posting the pics. Some of the weapons seem to be Nyar in origin, others are less familiar.

Ian.

Hi Ian
no these are just photos I took while I was there (non flash photography is allowed). They are part of permanent exhibition of Asian art, first floor I think, in the main NGV building (St Kilda road). The frieze is substantially bigger than what I have pictures of.
cheers
