Default PISAW KNIFE (KATAW/CATAU)

Hi,

Sharing what my father brought home. Commissioned by a bladesmith in Panay.

They call it a kataw/catau pisaw knife. This is a new commissioned knife.

The kataw/catau is a Visayan word for 'sirena'(Variously called duyong and manatee). Or a mermaid.

Blade: linamay profile. OAL: 15-inches/ blade: 8.25 inches

Ferrule: brass
Hilt: carabao horn with the features of a 'mermaid' with a 'purple sapphire : the stone of awakening in its chest (above its heart).
Scabbard: made from lomboy/duhat (Java plum), with brass fasteners. Design: mermaid's body with its tail.
Hand guard: carabao horn with copper.

Saludos,

Yves
