Default SAUDI?? JAMBIYA FOR COMMENT

Just received this today and would like some comment please.
Not cleaned yet of some rust on blade, and some minor corrosion in places on the silver. Nothing too serious though I am pleased to say, and in my humble opinion a very nice piece.
Regards Stu

Very nice piece Stu. Congrats! My vote is for Oman as well. Here is a picture of mine with Al-Bu-Said hilt.

Yes, this is an Omani Janbiya but its not uncommon to find in different Gulf countries.

Thanks for comments. The hilt style does not seem right to me for Omani. There are Jambiya shown in Weapons of the Islamic World published by the King Faisal Center in Riyadh, describing this style as DOOJANIYAN, and being contemporary to Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia.
What think you Gentlemen?

Don't know about that but I like the silver work on it. Very nice and old enough not to be recent if it is true silver based on the patina. If it is white metal instead, then the patina would suggest either way. Get it tested by a jeweler.

As a matter of interest, Al-Ahsa is the easternmost province of Saudi Arabia, and it borders Oman, UAE and Yemen, so...........that might explain the Omani type scabbard but with the silverwork decoration typically Yemeni in style. I am basically happy with the Saudi ,rather than Omani origins, as the hilt is NOT of Omani style, and the silver decoration is NOT of the typical scroll type found on most Omani Jambiya.
Any further thoughts??

you have a point actually. i handled Janbiya's with similar hilt designs that their owners categorized as Saudi but always said to myself its Omani. also, i may provide a picture of a similar design janbiya made in the 70's as a prize for some sport competition. I am a slacker so may take a while though

Default 2 khanjars

Hi,

The overall design of both khanjars is Omani.

However the top khanjar has been modified repaired on the top and in the detailed filligree work. So overall a repaired modified Omani khanjar.

The bottom khanjar only remotely looks like a Saidi khanjar as shown on the photo but deviates from an original in most of the details. Maybe copy of an Omani Saidi khanjar from a neighbouring country, Yemen/Saudi???

Regards,
Hielke

P.S. I used to live in Oman and have a large collection of Omani weapons
