Hi there,
Last week I found this Aceh shield size 37 cm round. the decorations are very detailed but what more unusual is the islamic inscriptions. Can any help me with the translation? Arjan. |

Islam inscriptions.
Mmmm...
Normally I would not be impressed by writing on Aceh items. I only see them on new made rencongs. But this shield is not new made at all. Maybe Alam Shah can assist ? Ps. note that the text is not engraved or anything, it is actually casted with the shield. |

Hi Arjan
you have to ; - present your pics after an horzontal rotation to be readable - found a translator in "farsi" because if the alphabet is arabic, not the language, and by that way, the inscriptions are not islamic sorry if nothing more to help regards à + Dom Last edited by Dom; 6th December 2007 at 12:50 AM. |

Yep, the textile is under the stars and the nails.
I only know 1 shield with the textile still there and that is in the 'Legermuseum' in Delft. Sadly their website does not have any pictures. |
