Default confederate fascinemesser bizarre weld!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Really wierd finger joint weld right in the middle of the blade; type of joint often seen on nicer solder-construction on sheaths ferules jewelry etc. This type of sword has been discussed without ID on the old forum. Now we know what it is, I guess. The same seller had an unmarked one, too, which seems more usual, from the 4 or 5 I've now seen.

Unless it is a well done and legitmate repair/restoration, I find that sort of thing a violation and insult to the spirit of the piece, the culture, and the piece itself. Usually such perpretrators try to scam the collecting community. Obviously, I am not happy with such individuals (explitives kept quitely to self ).

I think may be "crude Confederate production"
If it is a repair it looks like an old one for using purpose to me.

I went to ebay to see if the two blades (did I mention the seller had a second, unmarked one?) are the same length; I figured that might help in the repair/vs/crude production question, but the seller has a very frustrating way of giving different measurements for each; one length in the sheath, one out......I know they're both 1 5/8" wide blades, but that doesn't help. The one good thing is the one he does give a blade only measurement of is this one (18 1/2"). That finger joint would cost you a good 3/4", I should think, if it is a repair. I'll try to remember to email Therion tomorrow to find out a measurement on his.
