Default Persian Karabela with Zulfiqar blade?

Hello,

This large sword was sold on the bay last week and it brought on some questions. 41" long with a 35" long, 2" wide blade, split tip.

Immediate thought was of a Persian, Qajar "revival" blade with a karabela hilt. In some older threads on karabela similar hilts were identified as produced in Turkey or possibly Persia.

Thoughts? Is this piece a legitimate piece or a random assembly?

Something a little more modern. Windlass reproduction from the movie "Kingdom of Heaven"

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009TNGM6/...=justprofit-20

What did it go for?

Hahah!!!! Wow! time for me to brush up on my modern repros

They got the handle and guard very close to originals.

It went for about $600 and it was fought over by 10 different people.

Thanks Iain!

It was rather a distinctive piece at the time due to the bifurcated tip. Main reason it popped into mind.

The price indicates at least to me that most people saw it for what it was. I seem to recall another going for much higher a year or so ago.

Makes you wonder what will happen in a few decades when some of the very good Medieval replicas available today start turning up on eBay with a bit more age and patina to them...

If you look at the finished pieces from the same seller, several of those were sold recently for about the same price. Same pics were used for all of them.
I contacted the seller with a question, and he told me that the handle was " imitation ivory", and that it was "not sharpened, but not dull either. You ( meaning, -"I") could do some damage with it".

If one is still pining for it, just wait a bit: there will be more:-)
