Warangan or not - Kebo Lajer with repairs

I have a very old kebo lajer.
It is in a simple dress that probably is from the first half of the 20th century.
The condition of the blade is quite poor.
It also have some old repairs that in my opinion are of additional interest.

Now I have 3 questions:
1 Are these kind of repairs rare?
2 It has been done I was told with a material that is called 7 metals or something in that direction and this is a "holy' metal. Who knows more about this?
3 Can a blade with such a repair be washed without a problem?

Hello Eric,

I have never seen a repair like this and I don't know the material but I think that the chance is high that you will see the repair more clear after warangan.

I think it is a nice keris.

I've never seen such a repair so I think it is rare.

If the metal is "holy" like you say, it could be an addition to the keris.

I think the blade can be washed without a problem. Warangan doesn't harm metal. Iron becomes black. It depends what kind of metal is used for the repair. A wash with warangan will give the blade a better look. I'm sure it was washed after the "repair".

Hi Erik

An interesting old keris! I like those not too perfect keris which had a story to tell if they could speak. I own a few of them, too ...

I agree with Detlef that warangan might "highlight" the repairs. If I were you I would clean the blade and then leave it in the "white".

Just use the warangan and look how the blade appears. If done properly you can see the pamor and next step is up to you. How do you like the appearance of this keris. Looking at the keris it has has a warangan treatment after the repair. If you dont like it you can do the following: clean the blade with lemmon juice. Just till the moment it is enough for you. leaving something of the warangan treatment to have some contrast of the blade or make it completely white as suggested. But the last option is not in the line of this keris.

Anyway, show us a picture after the warangan treatment for opinions. But as said, it's your keris.
