Modern wootz fakes... or not?!
I have noticed recently a rather unusual abundance of "antique" mostly Turkish, but also Persian and Indian, wootz swords in pristine condition that would make the most prestigious museums envious.
However, the wootz pattern, while beautifully vivid, is mostly of the crystalline type, unlike the fine flowing watery patterns of the antique wootz. Am I too paranoid to suspect many of them to be modern fakes, or my suspicion is justified?! Last edited by mariusgmioc; 25th May 2023 at 06:16 PM. |

It's quite difficult to comment on the antiquity of a steel you haven't actually seen, though.
