Shamshir
A rewarding day today at Leeds Arms Fair with me finaly getting a shamshir at a price I could afford and in decent condition. A bit shabby, and never a prestige piece but I like it.
The blade is heavy,no fullers and has a decent taper in both directions and looks to be without any deep pitting and so should clean up nicely. I think the grip is bone rather than ivory, the guard and nose steel, and who knows, the blade just might be Wootz. Pretty generic so comments as to origin welcome. |

Congratulations. Good shamshir. It is very difficult to accurately define the region. It can be Persia or any countries that border it. For example Afghanistan or the khanates of Central Asia |

Those grips look as though they might be 'Fish bone'. A better focused picture would be very helpful to determine if that's what it is.
