Dating Shamshir using Mughal Swords
In "Arms and Armor Traditional Weapons of India" by E, Jaiwant Paul, he makes an interesting point, that of the shamshir type of blade becoming popular in India and the adoption of its use in India dates from the 15-16th century, he further states the the influence was from Persia where this style sword was in use long before that. Also says that there is little available concerning weapons in India from the 13th-16th century but that starting about 1550 you see the shamshir appear in miniature paintings.

There is quite a bit of this book available online.... rand |
