Default Panabas? Opinion, please.

To my amateur eye they do not look like panabases.
What are those?

I think your looking at some type of Burmese or Vietnamese battle chopper. I remember seeing one at the seminar last year in Maryland. Phil Tom may be able to shed some light on them. I just took a look at some of my pics from the seminar and the chopper is sitting on the table with all of the other Vietnamese swords. It was taken at 6 meg so I can't post it on the forum.

"Mak the knife"? You're pushing it lately, Lew.

Look like mak to me, albeit with longer blades (or shorter handles) than I've seen. I've no idea about their origin, however. Ian, what makes you think Vietnam?

Thumbs up Link to similar item from Vietnam

Hi Andrew:

I think the Vietnamese provenance is strongly suggested from one of the pictures on this page: http://www.sevenstarstrading.com/art...etnameseswords Towards the end of the page there is a very similar blade and a short section of the attached handle which is also similar to the mystery "panabas" on eBay.

The link comes from Scott Rodell's site at Sevenstars Trading. Thanks to Scott and Philip Tom for putting that article together.

Ian.
