My first swiss landsgemeinde sword
Good evening dear members,
I just received this nice ceremonial landsgemeinde sword ( Appenzell Canton ) with a decorated blade ( no stamps) Well preserved, difficult to date it, I think 1920-1950 ?? I have a question about the hilt if there are landsgemeinde specialists on the forum: do these sword sometimrs have silver parts ? I don't think it is made of silver but it's not magnetic at all , maybe inox steel or with chrome but it's no more shiny at all. |

Although Francantolin's sword is assumed to be a recent reproduction for cerimonial purposes, the Swiss landsgemeinde elections were initiated centuries ago and i wonder whether in early days swords carried by electors were actual weapons.
What we see nowadays out there are only such gatherins ocurred in recent years. Some of those words could be the real thing ... at least looking at picture distance. . |

That last one is very interesting to me, as I recently bought the sword below from Ulfberth as a 1750s French forte epee (using Dirk's pictures since my camera is not so good). Was there a date/location given?

This set of pictures picture was part of an article about the event that took place in May 13, 2015 in a town called Appenzell-Innerrhoden
