Dom, those picture are made in the Topkapi palace.
A.alnakkas, I cann't tel you if these three european blades are replica's, but those swords are the so called two handers and a bit larger than a common sword. |

I've heard alot of two-handers and seen them on pictures alot. Never thought they are THAT big.
On topic: isnt the drawing of Prophet david (pbuh) in persian style? I personally doubt that those are authentic but surely they are lovely pieces. At best i'd trace them back to the abbasid period which is historically known for using the Family of the Prophet as propaganda so its kinda logical that they would use such swords attributed to the Prophet (pbuh) |

The 9 Topkapi Swords.
The Topkapi is often used as an important reference by the Islamic sword specialists such as Messrs Elgood and North both highly respected masters of their subject. Of the 9 swords attributed I wonder if at least one with turned down quillons and the combination of a broad blade with a short tang(therefor similarities in hilt construction) and dominant pommel are feasibly linkable to the Omani Short Battle Sword ? I am very jelous because I visited the Topkapi on a Tuesday to be met with a sign on the door;

Alanakkas,
Those three huge blades must be examples of the legendary Two Man Swords of Viking lore. I've read about them, but never seen an attributed example. Regards, Ed |
