New member's Puukko

Greetings from Finland.

I´ve been a lurker here for few odd months and decided to register today as I´ve found this forum to be highly educative and filled with knowledgeable people. I am a couple of years from reaching the 40 year milestone but feel a kid at heart. - I am sure that Miss Jussi M. would agree on that but with a noticeable edge on tone (pun intended).

I´ve always been fascinated by bladed weaponry and find the Keris among other bladed weaponry particularly interesting due to it´s unique form and multifaceted historical and cultural aspects. I am here to learn and in the most unlikely scenario if I can ever be of assistance to you I will do my best to do so.

Yes. I have two Balinese keris but dont have a camera at the moment. I do however have pics of another, for most of you, exotic little hand made thingy a master puukkosmith friend made me of reindeer horn and hide, curly birch, high carbon steel and sterling silver with a drop or two of tannum

I certainly do like it!
Very clever and tasteful use of different materials, and surfaces: a mix of polished/rough areas on the blade is especially appealing. And the "bear claw" mark iis just pure fun!

Search for Puukko and you will find some nice threads. Scandinavian knives, to put it in a categorie, are collectors items as well and considered as ethnographic arms.

No no no no Rich, I didn't do it, it was a friend of mine who is a third generation traditional Puukko-smith. He´s name is Markku Vilppola. It´s all traditionally made... you should see the guys damascus... You can see something with google. I will also try to see if I still have some old pics when I come from work in the evening

I know I have pics of a damascus Viking spear head somewhere...
