Default eBay auction for a Katar blade ...is it?

Hi Everyone,
followed this on eBay.....if genuine...looks to be a very nice blade. But the 'fixing point' where the blade is connected to the hilt does not 'look right'....what do you think?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...9991&rd=1&rd=1

Regards David

Katana

It strikes me as being a cast blade not forged.

Hi Lew,
thanks, I must admit that the pictures DO suggest it is cast. Thats why I was concerned....(that ,and the 'fixing point').I assumed that if it were 'genuine' ...the 'decoration' at the 'hilt end' would have been chiselled...and would have been a 'status piece' because of the craftsmanship involved.

Hi Tim,
I agree ...if it is cast ...it is indeed 'horrible'.....if this is genuinely forged and the decoration is chiselled ...I think due to the craftsmanship IMHO it is much 'nicer'.

I also saw this peice a few times, it does not look right to me, the whole blade looks thickened not just the point, and in one of the pictures the seller had a marker sitting off in the left corner, which whould suggest that the peice is prety small, that is assuming the it is a regular sized marker

It makes me wonder is, why you accept the sellers postulate that the blade is from a katar. Besides from the quality and the not too good pictures, to me it looks more like the head of a lance, which has been broken.

It is, indeed, almost certainly a lance or spear blade broken off above the sleeve or tang.
