Any idea where it is from?
Hi all, a cheap buy last weekend. Any clues to where it may be from. All leads welcome!

The date is something like 123*, which translates into 182*. This seems to be an imitation of european military swords (?). The text in the first plate is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise from its true direction.
Concerning the provenance - I think this is not Ottoman, XIXth century borders. My guess is as good as any, but I would wait for more knowledgeble people to take on this thread. |

Hi,
that cartouche says Shah Abbas. Is this a wootz blade? The blade is certainly Persian. I think the date reads 1231. |

Bravo Anizi, I think we have Qajar military sword. Only I don't know, I feel something northern indian in this one, or am I seeing things.
Well, not my area of expertise. |

Thanks for the info. Not even having the inscription the right way around is just evidence that I have no language knowledge. Shah Abbas, cool. I have only cleaned a small area and it did not show any pattern with either Tannic acid and wostershire sauce, I must get some Nital (shame on me to be out of it).
It is a funny piece. Really worn down brass guard, horrible scabbard, also with worn fittings. But the blade seems quite nice under all the stuff on the surface. Thanks again Rivkin and S.Al-Anizi. |

It looks like a nice sword Ann, may we (not to sound selfish! ) get a pic of the entire sword. I bet you that the blade is wootz.
