Dual pedang suduk maru

A find from last year, that i forgot to share with everybody.
It is a nice pedang suduk with dual blades, pamored . Scabbard have silver mounts, and lacquered leather cover.
Most likely a unique piece, for someone with a certain statut.
Maybe a Chinese descendant or a Chinese official in Indonesia ?
I would place it in the late 19th, early 20th.
Any input, opinions, or discussions are warmly welcome !

Looks like a pedang lurus split in half.

Chinese influence might be a possibility. Never seen one like this before.

Like Jose I never have seen a similar pedang lurus before. But it seems to have some good age.

That's a neat find - congrats!

The blades do seem to originate from Java (indigenous work); apparently same-o for the fittings.

Maybe a Chinese descendant or a Chinese official in Indonesia ?

There have been many "Chinese" expat communities in Indonesia, originating especially from the southeastern trading ports.

BTW, has the scabbard a central piece of wood separating the 2 blades?

Blades and fittings are javanese made for me. The middle part of lacquered leather seems to me like the singularity here.
Yes, the two blades are separated in the sheath !

Agreed! I have one of what I gather is somewhat above average length with a different style of grip. and a slightly more pronounced forward slant. I bought it on a whim as it was pretty cheap, and it was one of the most pleasant surprises I've had. I love how it handles, and it is also my only blade so far with pamor (which I really like). I really like that forward slant and the way it brings the point in alignment with the outstretched arm, while simultaneously giving it a very choppy feel. It looks very organic, not just the pamor but also the overal shape of the blade. One of my favorite short swords to handle.

This might be sacrilege but as I said on the other thread I think it would work well as an elven sword in a fantasy movie. As an orc sword I might suggest the Ngombe ngulu.

Thanks a lot David ! I have heard about two other exemples of dual pedang suduk, one in indonesia and one in US, both in really bad state of préservation ! So, i am quite happy with that find, that is for sure
