Arabic what's it, help
Picked this up today at a local antique shop for $20. I figure
it is a tourist piece but I wouldn't do that work for $20 :-) I know nothing, repeat - nothing, about arabic weapons. Any info would be appreciated. What is it? When is it? Is it a tourist item. It does have an edge, looks like done with rough stone and a few nicks. Nice silver inlay. Looks like there are arabic writings on the scabbard. If so can anyone translate or are they just decoration. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance Rich |

Hello Rich,
What you have picked up here is a newly made Syrian khanjar. Nice silver koftegari work on it as well. I would label this as a tourist item, although a well made one. Please post closer detailed pics of the writing, I will help in translating if I can. |

Thanks for the info. I figured a tourist item, but didn't know what it was.
I'll try to get better pics of the writing, but the &%*$) digicam battery just died :-( Rich |
