New acquisitions 2
This is a Khukri I picked up for not much, I am not sure but suspect it is probably 1960's or later. Still some stains to deal with on the blade. The leather is in good condition, blade length about 30cm (11.8 inches) and weighs about 500grams (16 ozs). Has a lions head in brass on the butt of the hilt, so could be junk but blade does not appear chrome plated. Will post some of my other new stuff in the next couple of days. This is a very addictive hobby....what are the 12 steps (or is it 10 steps) to getting over this one.

It is what was sold in India from the 1940s onwards to to tourists/soldiers etc . as souveniers. They still make them to day. Mainly in Dehardun but in some other areas as well.
Most are chroned, some are not, very occasionly they are tempered & well fitted. Sometimes the scabbards are a papery thin type of fake leather. Sometimes the leather is real. Most of the time if used the blade dents & the buttcap comes loose & rattles. But maybe 1/500 {random figure.} is useable. Always good to have an example amongst the collection, whether tourist or not I think. The 4 step program for Ethnic weapons addiction is, step 1. put all kukris & other ethnographic/ civilian & military blades , carefully wrapped in a sealed box. Step 2, Walk or drive to post office. {with helpers if neccasary.} step 3. Post to me special Delivary for pre.8am next day delivary. step 4. Go home, relax & be glad you have beaten your addiction. This should be repeated as often as required, I am always happy to help in this way. Allthough charges may be made to cover my time when neccasary. Dr. Spiral The Ethnographic Weapons Addiction Therapist. First consultation free but please bring your credit card. |
