Default WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

Today November 11 is Armistice Day.

THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD
AS WE WHO ARE LEFT GROW OLD
AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM
NOR THE YEARS CONDEMN
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN
AND IN THE MORNING
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

Veterans day here. Dad was an electrician on the U.S.S. Dayton. His training before the shakedown of that brand new cruiser was at the Rochester V-12 program. Discharged as a first fireman of the black gang (all below deck seamen).

Cheers

I had one great uncle who was in the 41st division as a Captain of Engineers. Other side of the family there was another great uncle in the Navy on transports and another was a Marine.

I wish I could be in Europe or the UK for this day. Not a peep heard in the U.S.!

Shameful.

Sad.
In my particular part of this country the situation is not like that.

To be honest, Armistice Day is not officially marked in New Zealand either, even though our Boys were heavily involved on the Western Front.
I believe that our Government should be officially marking this event, but lets not get political....it leads to wars usually.
Our National Remembrance Day (ANZAC Day) is April 25th which marks landing of NZ and Australian troops at Gallipoli. A foolhardy undertaking masterminded by the British "planners".

Stu,

Well it Seemed like a good idea at the time, to break the deadlock.
(Gallip, that is)

Here is a photo of the Tower of London, taken last year.
Each poppy seen here represents one British or Commonwealth casualty of the Great War.
I think it puts in into perspective quite well...
