Early Kris with Silver-Rattan Wrap & Twistcore
Greetings. Thought I would share this kris I finished restoring. What caught my attention was the fact that I saw a double twist core blade as well as the blade form, the ivory pommel, and the interesting mix of a rattan-silver wire woven hilt, one I haven't seen before. I would place this as Sulu.
At first I found that a top part of the weaving was broken and detached completely from the rest. I took silver wire and wove it into both weavings to re-attach them together. Secondly I made a missing ferrule of embossed thick silver in Sulu fashion of the 18c. Finally I had to take the rust off, polish and etch the blade. The pattern is a little subtle but there. Bellow are some before pictures and a picture of the weaving in process. |

Thank you Sajen.
This replaces my stolen one somewhat, with better double twist core and that unusual rattan-silver wire wrap. |

Lovely piece to start with, and nobody could have fixed it better than you without starting from scratch.

Nice restoration of a great looking blade. Better to stop the deterioration I think and one ends up with another good piece for the collection.
