Uruguay cuchillo
Old Uruguay cuchillo in leather sheath. Blade is carbon steel and marked "Franz Wenk Solingen." These knives are assembled and marketed by Fábrica Nacional de Cuchillería (National Cutlery Factory) located in Montevideo. This brand is still in production.
The knife below appears to have some age, probably pre-WW II. The blade has a dark patina and the "button" is well oxidized. The metal handle appears to be brass or "German silver" and may have had a silver wash at one time. The gold colored areas are probably copper. A large black and white stone (? onyx) serves as a pommel. Overall length 13.5 inches. Blade 8.5 inches. Black scabbard remains in good shape and is supple. The blade retains a keen edge. Price $165.00 plus SHI. Ian. |
