For sale is this 1804 cutlass.
It has the remains of a Royal Cypher of William IV or possibly Victoria probably indicating that it was re-issued when there was a shortage of cutlasses, although it was made much earlier. It, consequently shows a lot of wear and is very thin at the point, there are a few edge nicks and the blade is stained with black patina in places but no active rust. I have only ever seen one other cutlass with this cypher so it is unusual. It is the one featured in Harvey Withers book - "British 18th and 19th Century Naval Cutlasses". I bought it from him many years ago. Price £600. PM for more details and photographs. |
