Serbian Walking Out Dress Sword?Which Period?
This is what I believe to be a Serbian Walking Out Dress Sword, but I am not sure about the time frame.I think that it could be from the Royal Kingdom of Serbia(1882-1918), but it could just as well be from the Royal Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1918-1941).
Finding material on Serbian swords has been difficult. |

I cannot help you with an absolute ID, as Serbian swords have never been an interest of mine, but based on the inscriptions the sword seems to commemorate the Serbian wars against the Ottoman Empire. One side has an inscription that roughly translates to "For King and Country", and there also seem to be a list of battles from the various wars, such as the 1876-78 Serbian-Ottoman War, and then the First Balkan War of 1912-13.
For books on the subject, you are correct that pretty much nothing in English exists. There is however an excellent work on the subject by Branko Bogdanovic called "Hladno oružje Srbije, Crne Gore i Jugoslavije (19-20. vek)" in Serbian, and also translated in Russian and Bulgarian. I thought that I would repost this item; TVV gave me an excellent start, but I'm still stalled out and I am hoping someone can add further information.
