Default Bataks and their weapons

Hello,

A friend of mine is doing some research on the Bataks and their weapons and is looking for any relevant literature. So I would appreciate any suggestions pertaining this subject.

He mentioned an article he is looking for: "Fra I Batacchi Indipendenti. Viaggio di Elio Modigliani" but I may have misspelled it.

Also any information/references on the Piso Podang will be most welcomed.

Regards,

Marius

Another good early work; I'd guess that Albert and Arjan have a copy.

Not all of these are Batak - there are probably quite a few Malay and coastal Sumatran examples.

You should get in contact with Erik N. who has studied this sword type.

Kai

Post Fra i Batacchi indipendenti : viaggio di Elio Modigliani

Here is a link to the publication of Elio Modigliani.
It is the complete publication, including the plates.
On plate XXII you will find several types of weapons.

In my bibliography - T.D. Rogers, An annotated bibliography of Indonesian, Filipino & Malay edged weapons (C. Zwartenkot Art Books - Leiden, 2015) there are scores of references to the Bataks and their weapons.
