Default North Borneo swords and Wedung

Murut Pakayun

Murut Pakayun with a long and heavy blade, beautiful lamination patterns and a hardened edge. Hilt carved in heavily patinated hardwood, long-style brass sleeve with a round guard and very rare human hair attachments set in the traditional way (see photo), rattan-braiding and rings, of which one is missing. Otherwise no damage or lacks to the sword itself. Incomplete scabbard, however still very much of scholarly interest, likewise patinated hardwood with nice carvings, zinc bands and partial old belt with textile attached. North Borneo, at least late 19. C., but could be earlier.

EUR 750,-/$ 1040,- shipping excluded – please contact me for a quote.

Iban Mandau with concave/convex blade of rather simplistic manufacture, and a single spiral to the crest of the spine. Hilt nicely carved in antler from Sambar deer with leech motives, human figure, a Makara-like Aso and lots of open carve-work, rattan winding and old dammar ring. Well-patinated scabbard and belt with “katong evok” rattan braidings. North Borneo, prob. early 20. C.

EUR 450,-/$ 625,- - shipping excluded – please contact me for a quote.

Iban Parang with large and sharp blade, nice filework on the distal slope of the spine, chiseled fullers and brass dot inlays. Hilt carved in hardwood, one broken off “leech” (old damage), brass thread winding and human hair attachments. North Borneo, prob. mid-20. C.

EUR 180,-/$ 250,- shipping excluded – please contact me for a quote.
