Default Bontoc Warrior's Boar Tusk Armband

Greetings folks,

Up for sale is an armband made of 2 boar's tusks, otherwise known as a tangkil. It was worn by warriors on the arm during warrior's dances and ceremonial dress. The tusks bring talismanic powers from the ferocity an d strength of the wild boar. This one is from the Bontoc tribe, one of the Igorot headhunting tribes from the mountains of northern Luzon, the Philippines.

This piece is wrapped in woven rattan on opposite sides with remnants of feathers that once were held in those woven rattan bands. Also there are pieces of paper inside those bands that indicate that this piece was possibly made in the 1930s when they were still actively hunting heads.

At the widest part it is 4.5 inches from side to side and roughly half an inch wide.

There is one length wise chip on one side at the bottom, not unusual for these.

I am askig $40 USD + shipping.

If interested please contact me at battara@hotmail.com

This is a great accoutrement to any display of Philippine Igorot Bontoc weaponry.
