Thank you! But the real treasure is the peurise nilo, it's a leather shield, the only known one out from a museum, see here: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...hlight=Peurise

Detlef

Thank you for posting Willem. Nice reference to have next to the shield (for the one who owns it as it isn't me anymore, it left me a long time ago).

Interesting shield Detlef.
I had one too, but the hide was much rougher as yours. I will look if I still find a photo of mine.
How is the hide tightened on the shield?

Hi Maurice,

It's a quite heavy shield with 1884 gram, pure leather, very thick, old and shows holes from bullets or spears, see the pics. Diameter approx. 40 cm. The leather is very hard and polished and cracked on the surface. It was once a real bargain from an auction house in Amsterdam, together with a very nice Dayak paddle. Last pic show one of the holes from the back.

Regards,
Detlef

Ah, it's a (rotan) peurise awe, covered with leather instead of fabric.
Thank you! When I bid on it years ago I thought it's a peurise teumaga and painted black. I was surprised when I hold it in my hands.

Yes, it is a peurise awe, according Kreemer covered with red or black fabric.
But I guess you can call this one also peurise nilô, because of the hide cover?

Yours look very special!
