Another KHANJAR for comment
Nice one. I like it very much.
Indian or Persia? I vote for India. Qajar or older? I vote for early 19th century Wootz? I vote YES. Don't like the scabbard thou. Any thoughts how should I restore it? |

Maybe someone could make you a matched koftgari pattern steel scabbard to fit over the original .
Beautiful . |

Most certainly Indian. I do not see a wootz pattern.
Personally, I'd test-etch to see if it is wootz, and this would be as far as I'd go. |

Is it more 19th century or more likely 18th? I can't find that style in any book I have.

You're a Gentleman Royston! Thanks Valjhun, Your Dagger is beautiful. I would say Indian. If you have a look at this Khanda, the koftgari is certainly similar. I definately think your dagger is Hindu. The blade doesn't look wootz to me, but thats not to diminish the beauty of the carved steel. Its a lovely piece indeed. Date I would say mid 19th, but it could be a bit either way. Certainly the style of gold koftgari is identical on many weapons in books attributed to 'mid 19thC' Regards Gene |

Valjhun,
Yes you have a nice dagger, congratulations. Like Lew write, the blade may be wootz, but the scabbard looks as if it is original, so I would leave it as it is. Gene, Nice khanda, do you know from where it is? I am sure you could find out if you tried. Jens |
